Outreach

Social Concerns

Throughout the year, Trinity participates in activities that focus on caring for those in our community who are in need. Regular events include:

BAT Meals: We serve a free dinner every Monday at 5:30 pm and a free breakfast every Saturday at 8:00 am. BAT stands for “Banquets at Trinity” and we began serving these meals in 2013 as a way to help homeless and low-income individuals and families in our community.

Food Collection Drives such as “Souper Bowl Sunday”, Lenten food bags and Thanksgiving baskets. The collected food is donated to the food pantries of Lutheran Social Services and Central City Lutheran Mission.

School Supply Project: Backpacks and school supplies are collected in the fall for students in the community. The backpacks filled with school supplies are distributed through Lutheran Social Services, Central City Lutheran Mission, and by teachers in our congregation.

Tree of Giving: At Christmas time, gifts of clothing, books, toys and household items are collected and given to families in need.

“Blessing Bag” of Food: Ziploc bags containing food and water are available at our church to be picked up and shared with homeless people in our community.

Shawl Ministry: Anyone interested in knitting or crocheting a shawl can join this group. Beginners are welcome and assistance is provided as needed. Completed shawls are given to individuals as tangible expressions of our love and prayers. Contact our church office to find out how to get involved.

Quilting Bee: Our quilting group meets on the first and third Saturdays of the month in Cooper-Burkhart House at 9:00 am. There’s more to do than sewing, and we need help with each of these tasks: cutting fabric, cutting batting, pinning layers, sewing and tying quilts. Everyone is welcome!

Every October, the quilts are displayed and prayed over during a worship service, then they are boxed up and shipped to Lutheran World Relief. They are distributed to refugees and disaster victims all over the world. To learn more about this program, go to https://lwr.org/quilts.

Music

MUSIC MINISTRIES

Trinity Choir

We are blessed with dedicated and talented choir members, led by Dr. Glenn Pickett. The choir sings at both services at least once a month from September to June, and participation is open to all adults and youth. Choir rehearsals are held in the sanctuary on Wednesday evenings from September through May.

Our Praise Band plays for the 9:00 a.m. service. Led by Dr. Glenn Pickett on keyboard, they are joined by a group of singers who lead us in a time of worship and praise that is guaranteed to awaken your spirit!

Pipe Organ

Instrumental support for the 11:00 am traditional service is provided by our music director playing an Abbott and Sieker pipe organ, built in 1967. The organ includes 1,390 pipes.

Handbells

Our handbell choir plays for special times of worship, including Christmas Eve and Easter Sunday.

Other instruments used in worship at Trinity include hand chimes, strings, brass and percussion. All volunteers are welcome!

Concerts

Our choir and handbells present seasonal concerts in December and in May. These concerts include a chamber orchestra to make it an even more inspiring and uplifting experience.

Contact our church office for more information about our music programs.

Sunday at 11:00 AM – Traditional Service

WHAT TO EXPECT

Our worship services offer a means to experience God’s message of grace, love, hope and forgiveness for all people through faith in Jesus Christ.

When you come into our sanctuary, you can be expected to be greeted by an usher and receive a printed bulletin containing information on the worship service and church activities. Coloring pages and crayons are available for children. Casual clothing is appropriate at our worship services. The words to songs and hymns are projected on a screen to make it easier to participate. Our combination of pews and movable chairs means there is comfortable seating in our sanctuary for everyone, including people in wheelchairs.

Our 9:30 am Sunday worship service is lively and contemporary in style. The service is relaxed and casual, with an emphasis on contemporary music and worship songs.  Our worship team uses guitars, keyboard and drums. Sunday School students are invited to attend the first part of this service, then are dismissed to attend their class.

Our 11:00 am Sunday worship service is traditional in style, using the hymns and liturgical settings found in the Evangelical Lutheran Worship hymnal and other resources. Our pipe organ and grand piano are the primary instruments for this service.

Please note: During the summer, from the first Sunday of July through the second Sunday of September, our Sunday schedule changes to one combined worship service at 9:30 am.

HOLY COMMUNION

Holy Communion is celebrated at our Sunday worship services on the first and third Sundays of the month, plus festival Sundays (such as Easter and Pentecost). All baptized Christians who believe in the real presence of Christ’s body and blood are invited to receive communion. Children who have not yet received communion instruction are invited to receive a blessing. If you would like your children to learn about communion and prepare to receive this sacrament, please contact Pastor Kent.
